Since becoming Mayor in December of 2004 I have met and spoke with numerous citizens on various topics. And even though some of these conversations have been regarding complaints I have enjoyed speaking with everyone. My vision for Shively and the citizens is for the City to be here for many years to come. We enjoy so many small town nuances here in our 21 plus square miles that larger cities don’t have to offer. We offer our own full time professional fire and police departments. Our Works department offers trash pickup, recycling, and appliance pick up. The staff at City Hall will assist you with compliance letters, yard sale permits and collect taxes for residents and businesses. We have great schools for our children and grandchildren and churches of all denominations to worship.

We have two parks where you can enjoy family gatherings. We offer two buildings for indoor events. The Shively Newman Community Building is available for more formal affairs and the old Dixie Suburban Fire House for less formal gatherings.

For several years the City has hosted a summer festival designed to bring folks out to enjoy our larger park, rides for kids, play games, and watch our fireworks display.

Shively is a third-class city of more than 16,000 residents. The affairs of the city are managed by a Mayor and an six person City Council.

I have a strong commitment to communication with our citizens and feel it is very important to get information to all citizens in a timely manner. We have a newsletter that is issued quarterly.

There is a cost associated with the newsletter but I feel it is so important to reach as many people as possible that the cost is worth the printing and postage.

I want to extend a personal invitation to each and every one of you to attend our council meetings. It is one of the best ways to know what is happening in the City. They are held on the first and third Monday of each month at City Hall, 3920 Dixie Highway. They begin at 7:30 p.m. We encourage citizens to speak on any topic.

We hope you will find it very user friendly and that it contains helpful information.
